Green reDesign Case Study: Reorganizing a Young Family

previous : back to Case Studies list : next

In the home of a young family, our challenge was to incorporate a recently-inherited antique dining set into the decor without making their rooms feel more cramped and cluttered. The antiques were moved from their temporary home in the kitchen into the dining room, and paired with an antique wall clock from another part of the house.

The completed kitchen includes a special craft area for the children to use while Mom is making dinner or scrapbooking on the existing table. The computer desk was moved to the wall against the staircase so one wouldn’t have one’s back to the room while working on it.

“You did a great job arranging the rooms in my home. Switching the furniture in the kitchen and dining room made a huge difference. We are using the kitchen space as I had hoped for more eating then we had before and it is so convenient to be in the same room. This is especially true if one of the girls has not finished eating I can start clean-up and they still have company.

I love the fact that the dining/living room areas are more streamlined. I find it relaxing to sit in there seeing it is less cluttered and can easily stay that way. Thank you for the redesign. It works for my family.” – T.B., Halifax, NS
