*New!* Custom Product and Furnishing Design and Creation Service:

Do you need a special finishing touch for your home or event? Our custom product designs are heavily influenced by slow-design and cradle-to-cradle principles, and use locally-sourced, upcycled, reclaimed, and eco-friendly materials. Anything we cannot fabricate ourselves is created in collaboration with talented local artisans. Our recent design work includes pendant lamps for Lucid Lifestyle organic clothing boutique and table centrepieces displaying tree seedling favours for an event held by Enbridge Pipelines. Some of this work is available for sale through ecoDomestica’s Etsy shop.

The construction of my chandeliers from upcycled bud vases and laundry-scoops is described in detail on the ecoDomestica blog. Since neither limited-edition series is complete, variants on the designs in the colour of your choice can be custom-ordered.

Enbridge Pipelines asked for an eco-friendly table centrepiece with a roughly conical shape to hold ten tree seedling favours. I took my inspiration from the seedlings themselves, using the Fibonacci Spiral found in a conifer seedcone as a starting point for the design.

Our raw materials: a tree that fell during the July 18th, 2009 windstorm. We actually reclaimed both spruce and poplar wood from trees that fell during the storm for this project. Hats off to my amazing carpenter, Clint from Tailored Woodworking, who took on the difficult task of producing my design using this wood while it was still green.

The FIBONACCI Eco Table Centrepiece takes its inspiration from the tree seedlings it was designed to hold, with the base created from tiered cross-sections of mature tree trunks and branches, and the placement of the removable glass cylinder vases informed by the Fibonacci spiral seen in conifer seed cones. The wood was reclaimed from poplar and spruce trees felled by the July 18th, 2009 windstorm. Event attendees were invited to reuse the American-manufactured glass bud vases in their homes after planting the tree seedlings. After the event, the remaining centrepieces were donated to the U of A’s Devonian Botanic Garden for reuse, and at end-of-use, the untreated wood will be chipped into mulch for the Garden’s beds.

Variants on this design using differing vase heights for floral arrangements or beeswax candles can be custom-ordered for your eco-events.
